The region is of important archaeological interest as it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In Trianta village the remains of a Minoic settlement have been discovered. The ancient town of Iallisos, one of the 3 biggest ancient towns in the island, extends around Filerimos hill, where the acropolis with its monuments from the archaic, Byzantine and knightly periods can be found. Iallisos beach is distinguished by its natural beauty, the clarity of its waters, as well as the cosmopolitan living and the options offered to visitors there. Restaurants and bars can be found in the immediate vicinity.
