Around 5 miles from Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales, Skeldale House is a boutique bed and breakfast enjoying spectacular views of Wensleydale. In the village of Askrigg, the house may look familiar, as it appeared for many years as the vets’ practice in the BBC TV drama ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. This Victorian house retains many original features and its luxurious rooms feature antique furnishings and high-quality en suite facilities. King-size beds are dressed with Egyptian cotton linens, and all rooms have a large flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi access. All have their own lounge area and dressing room. An impressive breakfast menu features toasted muffins with bacon, egg or smoked salmon, fruit salad, yoghurts, cereal and Yorkshire tea and coffee. A full cooked Yorkshire breakfast features sausages and bacon from a local butcher, and there is also a vegetarian option. The pretty village of Askrigg has a 15th-century church just opposite Skeldale House, and a number of attractive pubs, a tea room and village store. Hawes is around 10 minutes’ drive away, and is the home of Wensleydale cheese and the Dales Countryside Museum.
