The main building was constructed in the 1890s from local granite stone. There is a brand new extension, built in 2000, which is in keeping with the original building.

There is a medium sized lobby, which has been furnished in green and terracotta fabrics. It is open plan and leads into the bar and restaurant.

The hotel is set in 14 acres of woodland and gardens yet only 10 minutes' drive from the M6 and 8 miles from Windermere. The hotel's facilities include a fitness and leisure club with pool, steam room, solarium, gym and beauty salon. A choice of dining is available in the awarded winning Greenhouse Restaurant or Alexander's traditional pub.

The rooms are medium in size and are all en-suite. The fabrics used are bright and colourful. There are full facilities and all rooms are very well maintainted.

Ther hotel features a restaurant, which serves local dishes. It is traditional in decor with stunning views over Kendal Castle. There is aloso a traditional Westmorland pub, Alexanders situated in the grounds of the hotel.
