Originally built in 1850 the cottage is a fine example of early Victorian architecture. The main Victorian residence and original coaching house have been sympathetically converted and extended whist enhancing the original character and features. All extensions and improvements have been built using original Victorian stone, the east wing was completed in 1996 using stone rescued from the demolition of an 19th century rag mill.

The lobby is medium in size and the reception area is located at the front of the hotel close to the bar and restaurant area.
