Opened in 1956 by Prince Bertil of Sweden as a place of cultural exchange between Spain and Sweden, the Hotel Seucia has signified friendship, quality and international perspective. It is for this reason and its proximity to the important art centres, that Ernest Hemmingway chose this hotel as his home at the end of the 1950's. The historical significance of Hotel Suecia is gently contrasted with the warm avant-garde atmosphere created by the interior renovations made during 2000. The hotel is located in the heart of Madrid, with easy access to the Salamanca district and the famous Gran Via. The nearest metro station is Sevilla, just a few steps away from Puerta del Sol. Access to Suecia by coach is quite limited due to the narrow street where the hotel is located. There is easy access for minibuses. Otherwise it is a 15 metre walk from Alcala Street to the hotel entrance. It is only 12 km from Madrid airport and 2 km to Palacio de Congresos the nearest fair site. The hotel exterior has quite a plain light grey, marbled facade, with an attractive Greek style pattern. Each of the hotel rooms are decorated differently, but all are equally cosy and exclusive; choose between 119 rooms, and 9 junior suites with lounge, Jacuzzi, and some with terrace.
